Britain is forecast to bask in a nine-day heat blast as weather maps turn deep red, with temperatures predicted to soar to 28C.
Britain is poised to enjoy nine days of scorching hot weather as fresh weather maps glow deep red with temperatures climbing to 28C.
Recent ECMWF charts reveal a massive plume of warm air sweeping north from continental Europe, pushing temperatures upwards consistently across the UK from late this week and into next.
Forecasters predict parts of southern and eastern England could reach 28C by mid-next week, with the prolonged warm spell potentially delivering the first heatwave conditions of the year.
Weather maps generated by WXCharts indicate temperatures extensively hitting 24C across England and Wales from Friday, before strengthening further over subsequent days.
By Sunday, much of southern Britain is predicted to reach 25C, with the hottest conditions concentrated on London, the South East and East Anglia.
The heat then escalates throughout the week, with charts for Wednesday and Thursday revealing parts of England shifting orange and red as temperatures crest at 27C and 28C.
The balmy plume is anticipated to persist for over a week, with temperatures staying above average across much of the nation during this spell.
Northern regions and coastal areas are likely to remain marginally cooler owing to sea breezes, though temperatures are still predicted to stay comfortably above the seasonal average.
The Met Office states high pressure from the south could “quickly start to build” as we move towards the bank holiday weekend, delivering “fine and dry conditions” alongside climbing temperatures. “Thereafter, high pressure is expected to broadly remain the dominant influence across much of the UK, with spells of fine weather,” the Met Office adds in its forecast for May 20 to May 29.
The Met Office classifies a heatwave as three successive days surpassing a regional temperature threshold, which differs across the UK.
The heatwave threshold ranges from 25C to 28C across various parts of the UK.
