New weather maps show that the UK is set to experience a shift in weather this week with snowfall forecast and temperatures expected to drop down to a chilling -3C

The UK is set for a ‘second winter’ as temperatures are forecast to plummet with snow hitting several areas across the nation.

New weather maps show that temperatures will drop to as low a -3C, with snow expected in at least 18 regions.

Snow is expected to first arrive early on Wednesday, March 25 morning with maps, created by WXCharts using Metdesk data, showing several large white and grey patches across the UK.

Several areas can anticipate snowfall, with the heaviest snow hitting the Scottish Highlands.

Cities in the north, including Liverpool and Manchester, are also forecast to welcome some blizzards throughout the day.

The maps show the wintry weather to begin from as early as midnight on Wednesday with chance of snowfall continuing into the evening.

Scotland is expected to be impacted the most with accumulations of between two and five centimetres of snow, with up to 10cm on the highest ground.

Later on in the day the south is forecast to see showers, with Cambridgeshire and Essex experiencing showers.

As well as the white stuff, rain is also expected to fall on Wednesday, with many regions likely to see sleet build-up at some point during the day.

As well as snowfall much of the nation will need to brace for cool conditions as the temperature makes a dramatic U-turn and reached the minuses.
