The UK is set for a sharp drop in temperatures later this month, with the latest WX Charts weather maps showing the cold snap spreading widely, reaching as far north as Sutherland and as far south as Devon
After a mild and soggy start to November, Britain looks set for a dramatic temperature plunge later this month as weather maps turn icy blue.
Inverness-shire, Scotland’s biggest county by land area, is expected to bear the brunt of the chill, with temperatures tumbling to -5C, whilst northern Scotland faces bitter lows of -4C and -3C on November 17, the latest WX Charts weather maps reveal.
The freezing conditions, shown in blue on the most recent WXCharts map, are predicted to sweep extensively across the nation, stretching as far north as Sutherland and as far south as Devon around midnight on Monday, November 17.

The bitter weather is set to continue through the early morning hours, with minimum temperatures of -5C, -4C, and -3C in northern Scotland, -2C and -1C in northern England, 0C in Devon, 0C to -1C in Wales, and -1C in Somerset at 6am on November 17.
Britain’s chilliest November on record occurred in 1919, when the average temperature hit just 2.3C, reports the Express. On November 14 of that same year, Braemar in Aberdeenshire logged -23.3C, which remains the lowest daily minimum temperature ever recorded in the UK for the month of November, the Met Office confirms.
The Met Office’s extended forecast for the period of November 9 to November 18 states: “Changeable and at times unsettled weather is likely to continue into the start of this period, with low pressure dominating the UK. This means further showery outbreaks of rain at times, though it is likely that western areas will be wettest at first.
“There could also be some overnight fog, which could be slow to clear through the day. A transition to a less unsettled weather pattern becomes increasingly probable from around the 11th or 12th of the month, making drier weather increasingly common, with winds turning south easterly or easterly.
“Any rain or showers is more likely to be focused towards the east. Temperatures most likely to be around average through the period, particularly at first, and probably overall.”
