New weather maps from WXCharts show wintery weather is set to hit the UK on January 15, with deep snow forecast in 12 counties and temperatures dropping as low as -8C in Scotland
Twelve counties across Britain are bracing themselves for heavy snow and plummeting temperatures later this month, according to the latest weather data. Fresh weather maps from forecasters WXCharts show that wintry conditions are due to sweep across the UK on January 15.
The heaviest snowfall is predicted for central Scotland, with depths reaching up to 28cm in Cairngorms National Park. Northern and central Scotland can expect accumulations ranging from 3cm to 27cm.
Southern Scotland will experience lighter snowfall of up to 2cm, whilst the Lake District is also forecast to see around 1cm of snow. The coldest temperatures will also be recorded in central Scotland, with the mercury dropping to a bone-chilling -8C in Cairngorms National Park. Scottish cities including Aberdeen and Glasgow will see temperatures hovering between -1C and -7C.

Northern England can expect temperatures ranging from 0C to -2C, whilst the remainder of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will experience milder conditions between 1C and 5C, reports the Express.
The Met Office’s outlook for the period states: “Changeable and occasionally unsettled conditions are expected across the UK during this period. Low pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic will tend to dominate, meaning showers or longer spells of rain for much of the UK.
“Some heavy rain or showers are likely at times, most often across high ground in the west where rainfall totals will probably be highest. Periods of strong wind or gales are possible, especially around coasts and if any deep areas of low pressure develop in the vicinity of the UK.
“Some short-lived spells of mainly dry weather are likely between weather systems. Temperatures are expected to be close to or slightly above average for the time of year overall.”
