Snow could impact as many as 27 cities in the UK later this month including Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh, according to advanced weather forecasting maps

Weather forecasting maps suggest as many as 27 cities across the UK could soon see snow this month.

The GFS weather model shows flurries first falling in the Midlands, the north-west of England and northern parts of Scotland at around 6am on April 26. Birmingham is among the cities that could see some flakes during the initial cold blast.

By 9am, the maps show snow spreading quite widely across the UK, impacting regions just north of London as well as in Wales, Northern Ireland and the far north of Scotland. Parts of Yorkshire could also see snow around this time.

Maps for around midday on April 26 show snow falling right across the north of England, the Midlands, a huge chunk of Wales and most of Scotland. Liverpool and Manchester are expected to be in the firing line around this time.

And on April 27 at around 9am, maps show almost all of Wales engulfed in snow, while the heaviest flurries are expected in the far north of Scotland and northern England. In total, the maps suggest 27 cities could see snow during this period.

The Met Office expects temperatures to generally be on the warm side later this month. However, the national weather agency also says “unsettled” conditions are on the cards.

The Met Office forecast for April 19 to 28 states: “A few showers around at the start of the period, mainly affecting the far northeast of the UK. For many though Sunday should be fine and dry with spells of warm sunshine.

“Into the following week fronts associated with another Atlantic low will try to push into the UK, but may struggle to make inroads against an area of high pressure to the northeast and are likely to be held at bay.

“So for much of next week plenty of dry weather with sunny spells. Some east coasts could be on the chilly side, but further west temperatures likely feeling quite warm. Toward next weekend and beyond likely turning more unsettled with a return of some rain or showers for many.”
