Weather maps show widespread snowfall forecast across the UK over eight days from March 10-17, with 25 cities including Glasgow, Newcastle and Edinburgh forecast to be hit

Britain is preparing for an eight-day snow onslaught in the weeks ahead.

The latest weather maps from WXCharts indicate that 25 towns and cities nationwide will experience snowfall from the early hours of Tuesday, March 10 through to the afternoon of Tuesday, March 17.

The charts reveal snow arriving at 6am on March 10, with flurries predicted across portions of North Wales, North West England, Northern Ireland and throughout much of Scotland. The Lake District could see accumulations of up to 7cm whilst central Scotland might receive 11cm of snow.

The Met Office, meanwhile, is anticipating “unsettled conditions” throughout the country during this period.

By Sunday, March 15, the maps indicated extensive snowfall blanketing northern England. Urban centres such as Newcastle and Carlisle could expect between 2cm and 4cm of snow.

Northern Ireland, at the same time, is forecast to receive between 1cm and 2cm of snow landing at 6am that day. Scotland will again bear the brunt, with western regions predicted to see accumulations reaching 26cm, reports the Express.

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh are anticipated to receive roughly 5cm of snow simultaneously. The wintry showers will then persist into the beginning of the subsequent week.

The charts indicate another bout of snowfall on Tuesday, March 17. Sections of North West England will see up to 7cm of the white stuff descending during the afternoon.

Scotland is braced for another battering during this period, with a whopping 29cm predicted to blanket western regions. Glasgow faces around 5cm of snowfall whilst Inverness could see 6cm settling.

Looking ahead in its extended forecast, spanning Sunday, March 8 through to Tuesday, March 17, the Met Office forecasted “unsettled” weather patterns sweeping the north west. That said, the forecaster notes that temperatures should remain “near to a little above average” throughout this spell.

The Met Office states: “A broad northwest-southeast split in the weather looks the most likely scenario as we move into the second week of March.

“High pressure centred over continental Europe should maintain enough of an influence across southern and eastern UK to allow for a fair bit of dry and at times bright weather, whilst the majority of rain-bearing weather systems affect the northwest of the UK. Some strong winds are likely at times in the northwest.”
