A 35-year-old mother is alleged to have left two children at home alone for days, and their horrific living conditions only came to light thanks to a concerned neighbour
Two vulnerable children were found in heartbreaking conditions.
A mother has been arrested and charged with two counts of child abandonment and four counts of child abuse after two youngsters with special needs were allegedly left home alone for “several days”. Krystal Farmer, 35, also stands accused of lying to police about the incident.
The children were discovered after a neighbour called police requesting a welfare check. Responding officers found the two youngsters living in filth, with rubbish covering the floor, faeces smeared on the walls and no cooked food for the children to eat.
Police further said that one of the children was “found trying to eat raw, spoiled meat” while the other was curled up on a bedroom floor, CBS reports. There was also a sink tap running, spilling water on the floor.

“There were no clean clothes folded on the bed. No food in the kitchen ready for small stomachs. No phone, no tablet, no way for those children to reach the outside world. It was a house that had been reduced to survival conditions, and two vulnerable children were left inside it alone,” police said in a statement.
Farmer, from Michigan, US, is alleged to have lied to officers when questioned and they were able to determine she had left the two children home alone for days. Body camera video shared by the department captured the moments the boys were found, one of them naked, the other covered in feces. Police said they found the floor covered in rubbish “so thickly” that officers “couldn’t take a normal step”. No adults were in the home at the time.
Police have confirmed that the children were immediately removed from the Michigan home and are now safe. They further commended the actions of the neighbour who made the 911 call. “Because one neighbor acted, two children were rescued from conditions no human being should endure. See something. Say something. That single call made all the difference.”
It comes after another Michigan mum was arrested after her three kids were found living in “deplorable” conditions, having been left alone for two years or more. The children, a 15-year-old boy and two girls aged 13 and 12, were discovered in “absolute squalor” at their Pontiac residence after officers performed a welfare check following a tip-off from the landlord who hadn’t seen the mother since December, with rent unpaid since October. The kids claimed they’d been ditched by their mum back in either 2020 or 2021, and had been fending for themselves ever since.
Inside the house was a horror show, strewn with human waste, mould, and rubbish piled up to four feet high in places. The youngsters were also clueless about basic hygiene, like using toiletries or flushing the toilet, and hadn’t been to school since being left to their own devices.
Surviving on food that appeared weekly on the front porch, either from their mother or a mystery person, the discovered children had severely matted hair and overgrown toenails, making walking a challenge.
Police detained the mother in a different location, while their father seemingly played no part in their upbringing. The children, fortunately, are now safe with a family member.
