Both car parks, which are big enough to fit roughly 30 cars, will go to auction with an opening bid of £1 with no reserve – and could be suitable for further development
Two shopping centre car parks have gone up for auction for a bargain price of just £1 – less than the price you might be expected to pay for an hour’s parking in most towns.
The large tarmacked areas are set between residential steets in the village of Tonteg, south Wales, and adjacent to a busy shopping precinct where locals can access a supermarket, newsagent, beauty salon, barber and cafe.
But while the space appears drab in its current form, the listing says it could be suitable for further development, subject to consent.
The listing reads: “Two parking areas adjacent to a busy shopping precinct which may be suitable for development, subject to consent.
”The areas are facing a row of shops on Cardigan close in Tonteg and local shops include a ‘Best One’ convenience store, beauticians, funeral service, and barbers.
“The other adjacent car park is accessed from Dollgellau Avenue and services the same precinct. The parking areas could be suitable for further development, subject to any necessary consents.”
The two car parks, being auctioned off by Seel and Co with the freehold on offer, have no reserve price and the auction starts at just £1 today, February 6.
Parking is currently free at the site, so owners looking to keep the space in its current form would be unlikely to make any profit from it. Despite that, the auction house says the area “may be suitable for development” as long as it can secure the correct planning permission.
Local Val Lewis, who often parks at the shopping centre, said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the car park was up for sale.
“I can pay £5 or £6 when I go for a quick shopping trip into Cardiff so it would be amazing to buy a whole car park for a pound.”
Aerial images of the space shows it is surrounded by residential properties and large enough to fit around 30 cars.
Both car parks will go to auction with an opening bid of £1 with no reserve, meaning if you are the only bidder, the space will be yours.
