TikTok user shares tip for getting a French manicure at home

When it comes to beauty trends, we all love trying something new once in a while. Whether it’s a quick change of lipstick colour or something more permanent like a hair colour change, it can be a great way to switch up your look and give you a fresh dose of confidence.

One quick, easy – and temporary – way to try out new trends is with your nails, and there’s nothing like a fresh new manicure to give you a boost. If the rise of clean girl nails (usually nude, glossy and plain) isn’t for you, we’ve found the perfect colourful antidote for summer – tutti frutti nails.

Unlike the minimalist, pared back look of the clean girl mani, tutti frutti nails is all about bringing some colour and joy back into your nail art. Think fruity motifs, 3D nail art and fruit salad-worthy colour combos, all of which add up to some seriously playful nails that are the perfect accompaniment to the warmer weather.

If the minimalist in you isn’t ready for a fruity mix up, keep it simple with one single fruit-inspired design – say, some dainty cherries painted on just one nail with a simple block colour on the rest. However, if your maximalist tendencies are doing cartwheels at the thought, why not go all out with a different fruit on each nail, or even some 3D charms or gems to really bring them to life.

Although you can absolutely head over to your go-to nail tech to get the designs professionally done, they’re actually surprisingly easy to do at home too. All you need is a steady hand and some colourful nail varnish or – if you’re somewhat lacking in the artistic department – some stick-on nail decals.

If you’re up to the challenge of painting them yourself, take a narrow nail art brush like this Boots Nail Art Tools 5pk, £4 here, and simply dip it into your nail varnish colour of choice. Then simply paint the fruit you want to emblazon on your nails.

Thankfully fruit prints are relatively easy to do; for bananas all you need is a yellow curve, whilst cherries, grapes and blueberries are simply made up of little dots. If you need a little inspo, this TikTok video from MiaStudio shows you how to quickly and easily replicate some fruity images.

For those of you who don’t possess a steady hand or just want a quicker and easier option, these Le Mini Macaron Flower Power Mini Nail Stickers, £5 here, contain plenty of super cute nail stickers including fruits like cherries, strawberries, oranges and lemons. To use them, simply paint your base coat or colour, then apply the stickers over the top before sealing with a clear top coat to stop them from peeling or chipping – job done!

If even that is too fiddly for you, Lottie London’s Stay Press’d – Watermelon press on nails, £6.95 here, are a great solution. They have a subtle watermelon-inspired design with a pink base and green tips, and you can simply press them on and go in seconds with no waiting for top coats to dry.
