Tributes have started to spread online for Irebami, who died after swimming in a popular Forest lake.. Well…was “the brightest boy” and “would light up any room he’d walk through”.
Tributes have been paid to a teenager who died after swimming in a popular Forest lake.
A multi-agency operation was launched on Wednesday after the 15-year-old, named locally as Irebami, was reported missing and last seen at Testwood Lakes in Totton. It was confirmed on Saturday that a body had been found.
Tributes online said he was “the brightest boy” and “would light up any room he’d walk through”. One post warned of the dangers of open water, which said: “It has cost our friend’s life, we now wake up every day without him… so please, be careful near water.”
A fundraiser, set up to support Irebami’s family, has raised over £5,000. It states: “We are heartbroken to share the loss of our friend, Ire, who tragically passed away at just 15 years old after a drowning accident. Ire was loved by his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those around him.
“We are raising funds to help support Ire’s family with funeral and memorial expenses during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will be deeply appreciated and will help ease some of the financial burden on his loved ones.
“Please keep Ire’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”
Leader of Hampshire County Council, Cllr Nick Adams-King, said his thoughts are “first and foremost with the young person, his family and friends, and everyone affected by this extremely distressing incident”. He added: “I am also grateful to all the emergency service personnel involved in the response.”
A statement issued by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, which manages the reserve on behalf of Southern Water, said: “We are profoundly saddened by the tragic incident at Testwood Lakes. “Our heartfelt condolences go to the boy’s family, friends and everybody affected.”
