The car had broken down on the tracks near Canterbury, and Southeastern Railway confirmed major delays would likely follow on the high-speed line into London

A train has smashed into a car which was broken down on a level crossing at Sturry near Canterbury.

Emergency services are currently at the scene and details of any casualties have not yet been released. The car is said to have come to a stop on the tracks, before it was struck.

Train passengers and drivers in the area are warned to expect delays. Southeastern Railways said: “A road accident at a level crossing between Minster and Canterbury West means that all lines are currently closed.

“As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected to continue until 17:00.”
