Tommy Fleetwood is often spotted with his wife and golf agent Clare, who is 23 years his senior and comes with her own familial perks
Tommy Fleetwood’s wife Clare, who is 23 years his senior, is surprisingly a cousin of BBC Radio 1 star Nick Grimshaw. The couple are godparents to the famous DJ and all three of them are very close friends.
Fleetwood has been in excellent form on the fairways this year but his age-gap relationship with his wife is also something that attracts attention. Tommy and Clare first met in 2015 when the professional golfer was looking for an agent and was recommended his future lover by his brother Joe.
Clare became the star’s agent and after some persuasion from Fleetwood’s end, they started a relationship. Her expert agent work has been a great help to Fleetwood over the years and Clare’s familial relationship to Grimshaw even boosted the celebrations at the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Tommy was part of the European squad that dominated the USA 17.5-10.5 in France and Grimshaw was on hand to add the music to a raucous afterparty.

Discussing the unusual family ties with The Times, Fleetwood said: “Nick’s Clare’s cousin. And she’s Nick’s godmother. I’ve always laughed because he’s older than me, but I’m his step-godfather.”
Grimshaw and Fleetwood have an age gap of their own, with the DJ seven years older. It is unlikely that the golfer would let this stand in the way of their relationship, given that he hasn’t let it deter him from being with Clare.
Their age gap – Tommy being 34 and Clare 57 – has always been eye catching.
Fleetwood isn’t phased though as he explained how they avoid letting criticism get to them. He said: “Oh, we definitely get comments. But it’s never been a thing to us.
“Clare actually looks very young for her age and I look old — it’s probably all that sun. She’s incredibly cool and I’m not cool at all, though I am quite mature for my age.”
The couple tied the knot in 2017 and went on to have a son, Franklin, in the same year. Fleetwood is also stepfather to Clare’s two sons, Oscar and Murray, and even caddied for the former in 2024 on the Challenge Tour.
