Estate agent expert has shared the simple ways to add value to your home in 2026 – and they’re easier than you might think
Luke Saywell, a partner at Nottinghamshire family estate agents Gascoines, has shared some straightforward tips on how to boost your home’s value. He emphasises that first impressions can significantly influence whether potential buyers are willing to meet your asking price.
Luke said: “A fresh look to the outside of your home can add thousands through enhancing its kerb appeal.” By simply refreshing your front door and window frames with a coat of paint, which could cost as little as £10 per tin, you can dramatically improve your home’s exterior.
According to Luke, this easy DIY task could potentially increase your property’s value by up to £3,000.
He also recommends replacing old taps, light switches and doorknobs as another “simple change”.
Luke points out: “Not only can they be surprisingly transformative but are low cost and easy to install yourself.”
Such minor adjustments can “bump up the value of [your] home” and modern finishes might discourage potential buyers from trying to negotiate down your asking price, reports the Express.
Luke estimates that updating fixtures around the house could add approximately £1,000 to the property’s value.
If your property includes outdoor space, then the level of privacy it offers could affect its perceived worth.
Luke said: “Privacy is a huge factor for many homebuyers… fencing at the rear of a property can be a maximum of 6.5ft but, often, homeowners have fences as low as three feet meaning you’re much more likely to feel overlooked.
“If you already have the fence posts installed, replacing the panels for taller ones can be as cheap at £30 to £40 at DIY stores but can make the difference between securing a higher price from a buyer.”
This straightforward DIY project is reported to add as much as £3,000 onto your property price.
