Cleaning the toilet can often be a grim task but it’s important to keep on top of it, and you don’t need to spend a fortune on cleaning products to get rid of stains

Scrubbing the loo might not top anyone’s list of fun activities, and if you’ve been putting off tackling your toilet bowl, beware those pesky stains will make themselves at home before you know it. Those yellow marks creeping up in the toilet are often thanks to limescale, a mineral party left behind after water does a disappearing act, and trust us, they don’t look pretty.

This mineral beast is an absolute magnet for germs, so it’s got to go. But brace yourself, it’s clingier than your ex to your porcelain throne and laughs in the face of most cleaning products, which means scrubbing like a maniac won’t do the trick. But fear not, Samyx Cleaning whizz Atanas Dzhingarov has let slip a gem of a “green cleaning method” that promises to blitz those bowl blemishes in just 10 minutes. Atanas spills the beans: “Turn to nature’s own cleaners vinegar, baking soda, and citric acid. These environmentally-friendly options are not just effective against stains but are also safe and non-toxic.”, reports the Express. So whats the secret?

Calcium carbonate is the science name for limescale and your new best friends to beat it are natural acid agents. In one corner, we have vinegar packing a punch with its acetic acid, and in the other corner, its citric acid, straight from your zesty fruit bowl favourites like lemons and oranges.

Pit these two against limescale, and you can kiss goodbye to those hard-water horrors as they dissolve into oblivion, ready to be wiped off sans sweat. Now, baking soda might not exactly lock horns chemically with limescale, but it’s rough enough around the edges to show that limescale who’s boss, loosening its grip on your toilet surfaces to make your cleaning crusade a doddle. Here’s a green guide to banishing loo stains without harsh chemicals.

You’ll need nothing more than your household staples. Simply give the loo a good flush and scatter a liberal amount of baking soda around the bowl. Next, douse the baking soda with white vinegar and squeeze in some lemon juice for good measure. Watch as the mix fizzes up, tackling that stubborn limescale. Let this eco-friendly potion work its magic for a minimum of 10 minutes or until the fizzing fizzles out.

When it’s time, don those rubber gloves and take a toilet brush to the bowl, giving it a gentle but firm scrub. The pesky limescale should come off without a fight, leaving your throne gleaming. Finish off with a final flush and keep up the routine weekly to keep those stains at bay for good. Atanas chimed in: “By embracing these green cleaning methods, you’re not just maintaining a sparkling toilet but also contributing to a healthier environment. The journey to a clean and sustainable bathroom starts with simple, natural steps.”
