People say the hack has helped them stay connected and feel closer to their friends despite their busy lives taking them in different directions
When you’ve got seemingly endless responsibilities as an adult, it can feel hard to carve out the time your friendships deserve. But staying connected with loved ones is often essential for mental health, and it would be a shame to drift away from friends simply because you’re busy.
However, a content creator who knows the struggle all too well has shared a simple trick he uses to keep in touch with his friends – one he says has made a ‘world of difference’. Sharing his advice on TikTok, @Kirxdiaz praised the method that’s since gone viral on social media.
Explaining ‘how two minutes a week saved my friendships,’ Kirx Diaz said: “As I get older, I’ve been getting used to the fact that I don’t hear from my friends as often as I used to. I understand life is life-ing and I live 3,000 miles away from a lot of my closest people. But it’s something that I’ve really had to come to terms with.

“However, about a month and a half ago, we were introduced to this concept called the Wednesday Waffle.” Kirx continued: “Basically, what this is is a two-minute video life update talking about what we’ve been up to that week, how we’ve been feeling, and everything in between.
“I can’t lie, it’s been game-changing. The group chat’s always going off; we know who is going through it, who is doing well, who we need to check up on throughout the week, and for the first time in a long time, I actually feel closer to my friends now than I did when I was living back home.”
Responding to the advice in the video’s comments, someone replied: “This!!! This is why I stopped posting on Instagram and instead send those ‘stories/posts/updates’ directly to my friends, and it starts conversations and keeps us connected.” A second praised: “I love intentional friendships,” and a third revealed: “Me and my friends do a weekly photo dump every Sunday!”
A different viewer shared: “My husband started doing this with his friends, and I’m obsessed. It is so wholesome,” while another said: “This made me cry-IN A GOOD WAY. I really miss my people back in ATL and I can’t believe I never thought to do this with them. Better than trying to schedule w/ a 6hr difference.”
