Our beauty editor Laura Mulley has discovered a new mascara favourite with this new high street launch, which claims to give impressive length and volume with no clumps
As my job as a beauty editor, I reckon the best mascaras are one of the beauty products are test more than any other. I’ve had a few of the same favourites for years – including this gorgeous formula – but I think I might just have found a new one to take the top spot – and it only costs £10.
I think that L’Oréal Paris makes some of the best mascaras on the high street – including this £8 one and Holly Willoughby’s go-to – but its latest one might just be the best yet. L’Oréal Paris Paradise Big Deal Black Mascara is the brand’s newest launch, available to by from all the usual high street retailers, including Boots, Lookfantastic and Debenhams.
Usually retailing for £12.99, it’s currently cheapest to buy on Amazon, where it’s down to £10 – and here’s why I think it’s a brilliant buy…
‘Volumising’ new grey brow gel shoppers say makes them look 20 years younger
Charlotte Tilbury fans praise ‘perfect’ eyeshadow palette that ‘makes brown eyes pop’
Pros
- The perfect consistency from the very first swipe
- Separates lashes well and easy to get right down to the root
- Layers can be built up with minimal clumping
- Lengthens and volumises
- Doesn’t smudge of flake
Cons
- Only comes in black at the moment
- Not really one for a minimal look
Spoiler alert: I’m going to struggle to say anything bad about L’Oréal Paris Paradise Big Deal mascara, because it’s as near to my perfect mascara as I’ve ever found.
As soon as I opened it, I knew it was right up my street; I prefer a spiky, silicone brush over a bristly one – which this one has, in a sort of concave shape – as I find them much better for getting right down to the lash roots and separating my unruly lashes, which often grow in unwanted directions.
The formula is also absolutely perfect from the first go. I find that some are too wet and clumpy with the first few goes, and actually perform better after a few days; not this one, though.
With the first swipe, my lashes looked lengthened and defined from root to tip. My eyelashes are naturally quite long but they’re also fine, and mascaras can sometimes leave them looking spindly rather than full and fluffy. Catching sight of my eyes in the mirror afterwards, I honestly thought it looked like I was wearing false lashes after applying this mascara. I find that one coat is actually enough for me, but it does layer up brilliantly, with no clumping.
Another major plus point is that it doesn’t smudge, flake or transfer, either while applying it or throughout the day (and I’m someone who’s constantly wiping mascara off my upper eyelid).
The only person who I can think might not like this is someone who likes a very minimal make-up look, or who favours the current ‘no mascara’ trend. If this sounds like you, you’d instead fare batter with something like Glossier Lash Slick, £20, or Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara, currently £9.74. This L’Oréal also currently comes in black, not brown too.
However, I’m thrilled to have discovered this brilliant new affordable make-up find.
