If you’ve been on the hunt for denim that fits everywhere, OK!’s shopping assistant Grace has found the perfect pair of jeans for the new season for less than £40
An endless struggle of mine has been to find the perfect pair of jeans. I’ve gone through different stores, styles and washes but nothing ever seems to be quite right. Either the cut is too short or the waist is too gapey and the thighs are too tight. Luckily for me, New Look’s new denim range has come to save the day with their Adalae style in particular managing to fix all of my denim problems.
The Adalae High Waist Wide-Leg jeans, £34.99 here, are available in seven different washes from bleach denim to on-trend chocolate brown and my personal favourite for the winter, a deep indigo hue. I’m usually not a lover of the wide-leg style instead opting for straight-leg or slouchier styles, however, the Adalae style completely converted me. The high rise combined with the wide leg helped to elongate my legs and the jeans managed to perfectly fit both my thighs and waist, which is something I rarely experience when trying on denim.
This style would team perfectly with a chunky knit jumper, oversized blazer, or for me a matching shade denim jacket for a full double denim look.
I will say that these may not be for you if you’re more petite as they are the perfect leg length for me at 5ft 7. Saying this, however, the jeans did fit my sister (who is 4 inches shorter than me) perfectly when paired with chunky boots or trainers or with the hem slightly rolled up.
I’m not the only fan of these jeans as they have already garnered nearly 200 five-star reviews from shoppers. One reviewer wrote, “For those of us with thick thighs and want a wide leg look these are perfect, good quality and comfortable, my favourite jeans”. With a second confirming that the length may not be right for everyone writing, “Love the fit of these but being petite, they were long on me but I just used hemming tape and now the length is perfect!”.
Alongside the classic wide-leg Adalae jeans, I also tried out New Look’s Relaxed Turn Up Hem Jeans, £39.99 here. Turn-up hem jeans were around last year, but this season they seem to be everywhere. They are my go-to style at the moment as they add a trendy twist to the classic straight-leg. The lighter blue wash of this New Look pair combined with the relaxed fit makes these perfect for transitioning into cooler weather. A great way to style turn-up hem jeans is with some heels or heeled Mary Janes to elongate the leg.
A few other denim styles I’ve had success with over the years include Abercrombie and Fitch’s Curve Love denim range, specifically their Mid Rise 90s Straight Leg Jeans, £75 here. A&F’s Curve Love was designed to eliminate the waist gap, while also providing more room for the thighs and hips. And to make it even better, most of their jeans are available in five different lengths ranging from extra short to extra long.
I’m also a fan of River Island’s denim specialist range. I love the look of their new High Waisted Pocket Wide Leg Jeans, £50 here. This 70s style is also great for lengthening the legs and would look amazing paired with a shaggy afghan coat and some platform boots for a full-on retro look.
