The verdict about which is the very best Christmas market in the UK is in and it is well worth travelling to this festive season, despite being 411 miles from London
If you love Christmas markets, you’ll want to visit this one during the upcoming festive season.
Crowned the very best Christmas market in the UK for three years running, Edinburgh’s offering never fails to impress visitors. Edinburgh goes all out for Christmas, and the historic centre of the city is filled with festive delights. The Christmas market, which is located in East Princes Street Gardens, mixes modern fun with festive tradition – with over 70 stalls of food, drink, and handmade goods.
From hot chocolate, mulled wine, and Irn Bru – something every visitor should try at least once – to waffles, pancakes, roasted chestnuts, and roast wraps, there is more than enough at the Christmas Market to keep you and the whole family satiated during your time at the attraction.
The market runs from 15 November all the way until 4 January and features a Santa’s Grotto nearby at St. Andrews Square, as well as a funfair filled with rides and other attractions that can be found in West Princes Street Gardens, but nearby the market itself is the LNER Big Wheel and the Around the World Starflyer which promises to provide you with unforgettable views of the stunning city centre – which is especially illuminated for Christmas.
The rides at the Festive Funfair will suit all ages, so the Edinburgh Christmas Market is seriously family-friendly, but the festive fun doesn’t stop there. George Street features an ice rink and a Polar Bar – where you can get alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic cocktails alike – and Edinburgh’s Castle has been transformed into the Castle of Light, with the iconic landmark that is rich with history stunningly illuminated with festive lights.
You should also make sure to visit the Christmas Tree Maze in St. Andrew’s Square – but try and book ahead to make sure you get a slot as spaces are limited.
Whilst some of the prices at the Christmas Market stalls might be a bit steep if you’re working with a tight budget, one enterprising writer for Edinburgh Live took just £20 when they visited to see just how far it could stretch and “much to my surprise my money stretched much further than I had anticipated.”
If you are based in the south of the UK, you may not be inclined to travel 400 miles plus to the Scottish capital, Bath Winchester, and London all made the top ten list too.
