People are experiencing low water pressure or no water at all from their taps after the huge outage. Thames Water says it’s working hard to get things back to normal
Hundreds of homes, businesses and some schools are currently without water following a large pipe bursting, causing widespread outages.
People in South London are affected by the issue with engineers working to restart the pumps “as quickly as possible”. Homes and businesses in CR0, CR2, CR4, CR7 and SW16 are all facing starting their mornings without water.
One man who works in a school posted on social media site X that they’ve had little advice for their children this morning. He said: “Update? I work at a school, we’ve had zero advice which is poor.”
And another resident added: “So at what point would Thames water offer emergency water for people? We’ve been without water since 5am today. Two small children & I’m registered disabled.”
A Thames Water spokesman said: “We know how disruptive it is if you lose your water supply, so we’ll work hard to get things back to normal as soon as we can.
“If we’re unable to return water to all our customers within 12 hours of first being aware of the supply interruption, we’ll arrange for an alternative as soon as we can.”
They added that support stations to distribute free bottled water, maybe set up if necessary.
The burst pipe is near Mitcham Common and engineers are now on site isolating and repairing the broken pipe.
The spokesman added that tankers are also pushing water into the water network in the hopes of restoring flow in South London’s taps.
