A Tesco customer has shared a code she uses whenever shopping online that often helps her get extra food and household items for free

A savvy Tesco shopper has disclosed a clever hack on Facebook, which has bagged her bonus products such as Fairy Dishwasher Tablets with her online orders – for free. Posting in Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, the customer named Lisa boasted about her latest grocery haul.

The thrifty shopper explained: “Don’t know if this is common knowledge but when you are doing online shopping for Tesco you can type in the word SAMPLE and various available samples come up for you to choose for free.”

She also mentioned, “They change regularly, I believe.” In the accompanying screenshot from what appears to be Tesco’s mobile app, it showed an enticing offer, which reads: “100% off free sample.”

While the snapshot displayed that the items were priced at 1p, additional text reassured customers, stating: “Free sample: You will not be charged 1p on checkout.”

Its worth noting the fine print too, which states: “Subject to availability and £50 minimum basket spend. Available online only. Excludes Whoosh. Clubcard required. Delivery and Click+Collect charges apply.”

Apart from enjoying a complimentary bag of Fairy Dishwasher Tablets, Lisa’s post unveiled she managed to grab a freebie of Coca-Cola Zero Lemon, reports Wales Online. Her tip quickly went viral, amassing a flurry of likes and comments from impressed bargain hunters.

For those seeking to replicate her success, try entering the code when shopping online. When searching ‘free sample’ on Tesco’s website, the most recent list of freebies includes:

In the comments section, Emma chimed: “I got that the other week with coke zero lemon and a shandy.” Meanwhile, Wendy disclosed: “Me and my Husband both work for Tesco Dotcom and we have to put in the free samples just before or after we have picked the items.”

Joanne’s shared her experience: “I’ve had a free fosters shandy and mini can of cola for last 3 weeks. But think I must have hit maximum received as it doesn’t come up anymore.”

Georgina expressed her frustration: “Whenever I add the free samples they are always out of stock.” Ash made a similar complaint: “Tried last night. out of stock.” Charlie shared: “I got the fosters shandy but the other 2 are always out of stock.”

Tesco has a few ways to help reduce food waste and make surplus food available to the public, including: Community Food Connection. This is a partnership with FareShare and OLIO that redistributes surplus food from Tesco stores to charities and communities. Volunteers can use an app to find out what’s available and collect the food.
