The young girl was pronounced dead at the scene following a medical episode at Kendal Calling music festival
A 17-year-old girl has tragically passed away after suffering a ‘medical episode’ at the Kendal Calling music festival in Cumbria.
Police and paramedics were called to the festival site at 2:13am on Sunday following reports the girl was suffering an episode. Yet despite the best efforts of emergency responders, including the administration of CPR, the girl was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
The girl’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, police said.
Enquiries into the girl’s death are ongoing, with officers keen to speak to anyone in the area of the ‘Calling Out’ tent and the ‘Big Wheel’ within the Kendal Calling site at around 2:00am
Police have said they are also particularly keen to speak with a group of women who alerted first responders to the girl after becoming concerned for her welfare.
A Kendal Calling spokesperson said they were “deeply saddened” by news of the girl’s death, and that they are supporting authorities with their investigation.
“As soon as the individual became unwell, they were immediately attended to by our on-site security and medical teams.,” they wrote.
“Paramedics and medical personnel provided emergency care at the scene and did everything they could to help.”
More than 40,000 people were in attendance at the festival site this year, which includes high-profile headliners such as Wolf Alice, Primal Scream, Biffy Clyro, Scissor Sisters and Groove Armada.
The family friendly festival also has a number of other stages and tents featuring DJs, comedy and cinema, as well as an area just for children named Kids Calling.
