Jessica Rachel Glasser die on Saturday, May 3, and will be ‘dearly missed’ by her classmates and the wider community
An 18-year-old “much-loved daugher” and “dear sister” died in Northern Ireland last week, as heartbreaking tributes pour in. Year 14 student Jessica Glasser was described as a “caring and friendly character” by her school principal at The Limavady High School.
Jessica tragically died on Saturday, May 3, prompting the school to open its doors on Monday to offer support to both pupils and staff affected by the heartbreaking event. Her family remembered Jessica as a “much loved daughter”, “dear sister”, and “loving granddaughter, niece and cousin”. Following her untimely death, the school issued a heartfelt tribute to the young girl.
Limavady High School wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that we must share the tragic news of the passing of one of our pupils, Jessica Glasser. Jessica was a caring and friendly character who will be dearly missed by her classmates and the wider Limavady High School community,” reports Belfast Live.
Principal Darren Mornin said: “The entire Limavady High School community is deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our Year 14 pupil Jessica. At this difficult time, we keep in our thoughts and prayers Jessica’s parents, David and Mary, her brother Aaron and her whole family circle. May they gather strength in their collective memories of Jessica as they prepare for the tough days, weeks and months ahead.
“To assist in supporting our pupils and staff through this time of grief, the school will open on Monday from 10am- 2pm for those who want to come in, speak to friends and members of the Senior Leadership Team. Trained staff from the Education Authority Critical Incident Response Team will also be present in school on Tuesday to provide support, alongside the school’s pastoral team.”
He added: “Jessica will be fondly remembered by everyone associated with the school.”
Limavady High School shares grounds with local school St Mary’s Limavady. A spokesperson for St Mary’s said: “The entire school community offer their heartfelt sympathy to Jessica’s family and the Limavady High School community. The thoughts and prayers of the staff, students and families are with the school community at this difficult and tragic time. God Bless.”
The nearby Limavady Grammar School also expressed its sympathies: “The Limavady Grammar School community extends its condolences to Jessica’s family and to everyone at Limavady High School. Our thoughts and prayers are with the staff, students, and families as they navigate this profoundly difficult time.”
Additionally, Limavady Methodist Church shared its “condolences, thoughts and prayers to Jessica’s family on this devastating news”.
Limavady Hockey Club has expressed its profound sorrow over the loss of Jessica Glasser, a former player and cherished friend. The club shared: “Everyone at Limavady Hockey Club is deeply saddened at the untimely death of former team mate and friend Jessica Glasser.
“Jessica was a quiet, modest, talented and hardworking young lady with many friends at the club. She played at U13, U15 and in our 3rd XI squad.
“It’s hard to put into words the shock and sadness we feel hearing about Jessica’s passing. The void she leaves behind is testament to the impact she had on the lives of everyone who knew and loved her.”
A spokesperson for the club conveyed their heartfelt memories and condolences: “We will remember her fondly with love as the gentle soul she was and always as a beloved member of our hockey family. We offer our sincerest condolences to Jessica’s family and friends at this very difficult time. Rest easy beautiful girl.”
Jessica Rachel Glasser will be laid to rest following a funeral service at her home in Limavady on Tuesday, with the burial taking place at Christ Church Limavady.
