Liam Moor, 19, appeared at court charged with manslaughter after Lisa Denton, 40, died in hospital following the incident

A teen boy has appeared in court charged with manslaughter following the tragic death of a woman outside a pub.

Liam Moor stands accused of killing Lisa Denton after what’s believed to be a single-punch incident near Charlie’s Bar in North Shields, which happened at around 10pm on Saturday, January 24.

Lisa, aged 40 and also a resident of the town, sustained a severe head injury and was rushed to hospital but tragically passed away the next morning. Moor was detained and subsequently charged with manslaughter, reports Chronicle Live.

The 19-year-old, employed as a labourer on a construction site, appeared before magistrates at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 27. Fighting back tears, he only spoke to verify his identity, date of birth and bail address.

Due to the gravity of the alleged offence, no plea was entered. Clare Haswell, prosecuting, stated Moor is accused of assaulting Lisa by delivering a single punch outside Charlie’s Bar.

Miss Haswell continued: “This is indictable only. The Crown would seek to apply to release the defendant on conditional bail.”

Mark Harrison, representing the defence, confirmed bail conditions had been mutually agreed upon, stating: “This is a tragic incident, however it’s regarded.”

Magistrates granted Moor conditional bail, requiring him to observe an electronically-monitored curfew from 9pm to 7am, avoid a designated zone in North Shields (also tracked electronically), and attend Bedlington Police Station weekly. He is additionally prohibited from contacting prosecution witnesses.

Presiding magistrate Robert Waddell explained: “Your next appearance will be at Newcastle Crown Court. We can’t deal with this offence at the magistrates’ court, so you will be dealt with at Newcastle Crown Court.

“Your next appearance will be there on February 24 at 10am. In the meantime, what we had to consider in this court, is what happens to you in the interim period.

“On the basis of what has been represented to us this morning, you will be given conditional bail.”

Following the incident, as previously reported, a woman in her 50s was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She remains on police bail whilst enquiries continue.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton stated earlier this week: “This is an incredibly tragic incident where a woman has sadly lost her life. Our thoughts remain firmly with Lisa’s loved ones at this time. We will continue to support them as they try to navigate a life without Lisa.”

He continued: “With proceedings now active, we would ask that the public avoid speculation, both online and in the community, and respect the ongoing legal process.”
