A sixth form student who was tragically killed in a minibus crash in Tadcaster has been named and pictured.
Eleanor Hague, known as Ellie, tragically died on Monday following a crash involving a minibus and a car. The 16-year-old, from Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, was a student at Tadcaster Grammar School.
Her loved ones being supported by the police following the tragedy, which has left her community devastated. Ellie was a passenger in a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus which was crashed into by a light-coloured Hyundai i10 car on Toulston Lane at the junction with Rudgate at 12.28pm on Monday. The minibus was travelling towards Sherburn, while the car entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate.
The minibus was carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18 from Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School, who have a shared sixth form. Another teenage girl was also taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening, Yorkshire Live reported.
The other passengers, and the man driving the minibus, were treated for minor injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She has been released on conditional bail. Toulston Lane has also been reopened after being closed overnight and through Tuesday.
The police said: “We can now formally name the girl who tragically died in the two-vehicle collision in Tadcaster on Monday (1 December 2025). She is 16-year-old Eleanor Hague – known as Ellie – from Sherburn in Elmet, a sixth form student at Tadcaster Grammar School. Her family, who are being supported by specially trained police officers, have provided these photographs of Ellie.”
They added: “Ellie was a passenger in a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus that was in a collision with a light-coloured Hyundai i10 car on Toulston Lane – at the junction with Rudgate – at around 12.28pm on Monday.
“The minibus was heading towards Sherburn and the car entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate. The minibus was carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18 – both from Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School who have a shared sixth form. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, Ellie tragically died at the scene. Another teenage girl was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
“The other passengers, and the man driving the minibus, have received treatment at hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
“Following questioning, she has been released on conditional bail. Toulston Lane has now reopened after being closed overnight and during Tuesday. We are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or motorists with relevant dashcam footage to come forward as soon as possible.”
