Met Office weather forecasters have produced hour-by-hour breakdowns for some of the worst-hit parts of the country as Storm Eowyn tears at Brits four hours on end

Storm Eowyn made landfall in the UK wielding devastating 100mph winds this morning, and will tear through the country for the next six hours, according to red Met Office warnings tracing its path.

Two rare red weather warnings issued by the agency state the storm will churn dangerously across Scotland and Northern Ireland, where dozens of communities will be at the mercy of gale-force winds. Forecasters have warned people to stay indoors and shelter due to a “danger to life”, with debris expected to fly around the worst-hit areas.

The rest of the country won’t escape scot-free, however, with yellow and amber warnings covering every inch of the nation well into the weekend and beyond. The Met Office has also released hour-by-hour breakdowns of the red warning areas that show just how dangerous the winds could become.

According to the Met Office, wind speeds in Scotland could reach nearly 90mph in Scottish capital Edinburgh after gusts gather this morning. The hourly breakdown shows the wind starting strong, at 70mph, and will gather over the day by nearly 20mph, with Scots battered with dangerous 87mph winds by lunchtime, when they have been told to stay indoors.
