You don’t need expensive cleaning solutions to remove carpet stains

Acting quickly when a spill happens on a carpet is crucial to preventing a lasting stain, but this isn’t always feasible. While some homes may have carpet cleaning products at the ready, this certainly isn’t the case for everyone. In such situations, there may be items around your house that could prove just as effective at tackling the marks.

Cleaning expert and influencer Lynsey Crombie revealed that for unexpected carpet stains, there’s no need to grab specialist cleaning products if you’ve got shaving foam available. Sharing her expertise on Instagram @lynsey_queenofclean, she explained: “Shaving foam is not just for shaving, it is also an amazing, inexpensive stain remover that works brilliantly on both carpets and mattresses. Shaving cream is simply a form of whipped soap. When applied, it lathers up, penetrating and adding moisture to just about any stain.”

The key to shaving foam’s success lies in its capacity to break down stubborn grease and attach to carpet fibres, helping with the removal process.

Shaving foam’s ingredients are designed to soften facial hair and contain mild abrasives to untangle knots and remove dead skin cells. These surfactants prove highly effective at breaking down the very particles that cause stains, reports the Express.

Moreover, the creamy consistency of the foam means it remains on the stain for longer, maintaining contact with the contaminant to deliver superior cleaning outcomes. Lynsey recommends using shaving foam to remove carpet stains with a simple technique. She explained: “Just use warm water and a small soft brush or cloth and very gently rub into the stain, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse away.”

Following this, she suggested opening out a cloth into a square to dab the area dry, choosing a white cloth to see the stain being removed. The spot should then be allowed to air dry on its own.

The cleaning guru stressed the need to use white shaving foam, as it contains no dyes, and warns households to carry out a spot test before trying this method.

This approach proves especially useful for tackling water-soluble stains, including those from milk, mud, most foods, soda, ice cream, and gravy.

Numerous followers have tested this trick and posted their feedback in the comments section. @kolijohnson wrote: “I did this on a stain on our hallway carpet, worked a treat. Thank you so much for the tip.”

I used your shaving foam tip to clean the stains and it’s worked amazingly well and left no stains or marks on the carpet. Thank you so much for an easy to use but brilliant tip.” @kazmcgaz76 said: “We used this when my daughter got nail varnish, all over the carpet. I went mental while the other half was googling as fast as his fingers would let him. Wow, couldn’t believe it brought it out!”
