People queued outside stores in America from 2am to get their hands on the limited edition cup that’s coming to the UK
Starbucks fans have been surprised by a major announcement as the coffee chain is set to enforce a strict rule. It comes as a viral product makes its way to the UK for the first time, which took America by storm.
Announcing the news on the official Starbucks UK Instagram feed, a company spokesperson said: “This is not a drill… see you 15.01”. The picture shows the top of ‘Bearista’ cup, with its green beanie hat and matching straw. The teddy bear-shaped drinks cup went viral in America and is due to arrive in the UK on January 15.
People were quick to share their excitement, with one writing under the Instagram post: “I can’t believe we’re getting them too!” Another fan said: “I’ve set my reminder… I’ll be there!”
A third wrote: “Let’s hope you supply each store with more than one this time so it doesn’t resemble the Hunger Games!” One more said: “Hope it’s not going to be chaotic like it was in America!” A fifth person put: “As much as I’d like one, I just cba if it’s going to cause a riot!”
The post confirmed that shoppers would be limited to one Bearista cup per customer, with people claiming that not all of the coffee shop branches will be participating in the sale. British fans of the international chain may have seen viral videos shared in 2025 when the limited-edition cup was released in America.
Stores were given very small amounts of stock compared to the customer demand. Some locations only had a handful of cups, which sold out within minutes of coffee shops opening, despite coffee fans lining up outside stores from 2am.
What is the cup, why is it so special, and how much will it cost?
Starbucks announced the UK release of the Bearista Cold Cups – a clear cup in the shape of a teddy bear with a straw, paired with a green beanie hat – on social media earlier today, January 12. The cups were made available in America back in November 2025 as part of a ‘Holiday’ range.
Since being shared online, fans of the coffee chain quickly fell in love. Many declared that they “needed” the teddy-shaped cup.
In America, it was sold for $29.95. Whilst no price has been officially confirmed for the UK, if it is priced similarly, customers can expect to pay around £22 (using current exchange rates) when the cup is released on January 15.
