White clothes can be tricky to keep looking fresh and clean, but experts have shared a simple method to help remove stains and brighten your white laundry

Keeping your white clothes stain-free and sparkling can sometimes feel like a mammoth task, but it doesn’t have to be a never-ending battle. Whiteness can fade over time, with clothes coming into contact with body oils, sweat, and lotions on a daily basis.

On top of this, whites can also become discoloured as the dye from other garments can transfer onto them. Bras in particular are one item that can become discoloured over time, and may need some extra care when being washed.

White bras are ideal for wearing under sheer or pale clothing and can help you avoid unsightly lines beneath your tops and dresses; however, this can be less than perfect if they have started to grey.

With this in mind, experts at Belle Lingerie have revealed how you can get your bras and other white laundry items looking good as new using lemon juice and baking soda.

They said: “Cover the stain with one tablespoon of baking soda and rub lemon juice over the baking soda. Work the juice into the fabric and let the treatment sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water and wash normally.

“This powerful stain remover will brighten your white bras and unlike bleach, it’s gentle on delicate fabric and colour-safe when diluted. This lemon juice method will help turn your white bras back to their former glory.”

This straightforward method works as lemon juice contains citric acid, which can naturally break down stains, making it the ideal ingredient to use when you want to brighten and add a little zest back into your wardrobe.

Alongside this, it’s suggested that you handwash your bras, rather than just tossing them into the washing machine, after they’ve been worn three or four times.

If you don’t have the time to hand-wash and prefer to use the washing machine, ensure it is set to a cold temperature, as hot water can cause your bras to shrink and wear down the material.

The experts advise: “Your bras are extremely delicate, so when washing them by hand, ensure you soak gently and thoroughly wash them with mild soap.

“Never use harsh soaps, chemicals or solvents such as fabric softener or bleach, as this can cause damage to the fibres of your bras. Carefully rinse until the water runs clear and air dry your bras for the best result.”

You can also add one tablespoon of baking soda to a cold water wash for your white bras, which helps remove any yellow stains around the armpits, eliminates odours, and increases the overall whiteness of your bras.
