Boots shoppers can get 20% off the Max Factor Mellow Blur, which has recently had six new shades added to its collection
Fruit and food-inspired makeup trends have been seriously dominating social media for the last few years; we’ve had black cherry makeup, strawberry girl makeup, guava girl, latte makeup, glazed donut lips and even tomato makeup. This summer, it seems chocolate is the flavour of the moment with its earthy, deep, neutral palette.
Leaning into this, cult beauty brand Max Factor has just launched its new Chocolate Melts collection, which contains the popular instant blurring lipstick, Mellow Blur, which is back with six new chocolate-inspired shades. Loved by former Made In Chelsea star Sophie Habboo, the lipstick typically costs an affordable £9.99, but for a limited time, shoppers can get 20% off by entering the code CHOC20 at checkout.
This drops the price of the Mellow Blur lipstick to £8. While a celebrity endorsement is always a good sign of a products’ quality, it’s also been MUA approved as one review of the ‘blur’ lipstick shared: “As a previous mua I like to try different products on the market the good thing about this product is how smooth it glides on and feels like butter which also is very blendable and something I would look to get in different shades.”
The lipstick comes in a range of gorgeous shades, including Mochi Mauve – soft mauve, Raspberry Rush – cool pink, Peach Blush – soft coral, Cashmere Cherry – deep red, Brushed Berry – deep pink and Brown Butter – nude brown. Its buildable formula allows for a more subtle or deeper lip colour, and it pairs easily with the brand’s Lip Shader Lip Liner.
With a soft-matte finish, the lipstick’s creamy, lightweight formula reportedly feels ‘pillow-soft on lips’ while its smooth blur technology negates the need for tapping the lipstick in, nor smudging.

The instant blurring lipstick Mellow Blur from Max Factor comes in 12 different shades.
With a similar lipstick tube and silky formula, this Max Factor product rivals Glossier’s Generation G sheer matte, fragrance-free lipstick, £20, which promises a ‘just blotted’ look ‘without the blot’. It comes in nine shades and is ‘natural’ enough for daytime wear but can be layered for a more statement night-time lip.
Elsewhere, REFY’s Lip Blush, £16, is another natural-looking option. It delivers a subtle wash of colour as a hydrating tinted lip balm. It also features ‘blurring technology to smooth the appearance of fine lines while enhancing your natural lip tone’.
The lippy isn’t the only product from Max Factor leaning into the chocolate theme, as it has also launched its Long Lash Era tubing mascara, £10.99, in a new Chocolate shade, as well as three new Lip Shader shades, the WOW Liner in Chocolate and its Lip Glaze in Chocolate Glow, too.
The mascara’s new chocolate shade is a gorgeous alternative for those wanting to get that ‘your lashes, but better’ look as it looks natural enough (in shade) to look as if the wearer has no makeup on, but boosts the lashes to deliver a 50% increase in length and volume. As for the eyeliner, it’s a waterproof 24-hour wear eyeliner with ‘wow pigmentation’ for strong colour. It’s infused with jojoba oil, ensuring a creamy glide and easy-to-blend application. It also boasts a smudge-proof formula, which should keep it in place all day.
If a lip gloss is more the vibe, the brand’s Max Factor 2000 Calorie Lip Glaze Full Shine Lip Gloss is now available in a gorgeous deep chocolate glow. It has an instant plumping effect and is enriched with a nourishing complex of hyaluronic acid and squalane. This is similar to Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm gloss, £28, which features innovative Plumpgasm Heat and Ice Technology as well as Hyaluronic Acid for added nourishment.
Although the lipstick in the collection is perhaps its most coveted and has a glowing rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 from almost 300 reviews. Shoppers love how weightless the formula is, with many people commenting how it ‘didn’t feel like I was wearing any product on my lips’, not to mention its longevity.
One user wrote: “This is a nice product with good colour pigmentation and lasts a reasonably long time. It’s a lightweight formula which doesn’t feel like a thick, heavy lipstick. Goes well with a brown lipliner!”
Someone else noted how it didn’t settle into fine lines, and said: “The lipstick has a lightweight, creamy formula that glides effortlessly across the lips, leaving them looking beautifully smooth. It makes my lips appear softer, well cared for, and visibly fuller.
“One thing I really love is that it doesn’t emphasise dry patches or settle in fine lines, which unfortunately happens with many matte lipsticks. It’s incredibly comfortable to wear throughout the day, never feels drying, and leaves my lips feeling pleasantly hydrated. The colour has impressive staying power and still looks fresh after several hours, fading evenly without looking patchy.
“The packaging is elegant and compact, making it perfect for everyday use as well as quick touch-ups on the go.”
While many users loved the subtle colour that can be built on, others weren’t too impressed, with one mixed review reading: “This lipstick is really easy to apply and feels smooth and soft on the lips, but the colour payoff is not great, and I felt like I needed to keep applying more to achieve the colour I wanted.”
That said, for the most part, the Max Factor Mellow Blur Lipstick has been a hit, with many shoppers echoing the praise of this review: “I absolutely love this! It smooths my lips beautifully, feels so lightweight, and gives the perfect soft, blurred look. It’s comfortable to wear, lasts well, and has quickly become one of my favourite lip products”.
With a heatwave still in our midst, it is the perfect product for achieving luscious-looking lips without the weight of typical makeup.
