Police arrested six people after the ‘huge brawl’ broke out inside a stand at the course on Derby day, with a crowd of 28,500 people in attendance including the King and Queen
Six people have been arrested after a ‘brawl’ broke out at Epsom.
Footage of the huge fight on Derby day was shared on social media with officials stating that anti-social behaviour “has no place” at Epsom.
A crowd of 28,500 on the Surrey Downs on Saturday saw Christmas Day claim Derby glory in the wind and rain – the highest crowd for the premier Classic since 2022.
Footage posted online appears to show a fight breaking out inside a stand at the course.
“Our security teams and police on site responded quickly to an incident on Saturday,” said a spokesperson for Epsom, which is owned by Jockey Club Racecourses.
“This matter is now being dealt with by Surrey Police so it would not be appropriate to comment further, other than to say that this sort of behaviour has no place at our racecourse.”
Surrey Police said in a statement: “At around 5:50pm on Saturday, 6 June, officers were called to reports of a fight within the racecourse at the Epsom Derby.
“Six people were arrested in connection to the incident on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and affray. They have since been released on police conditional bail pending further investigation.”
The King and Queen were in attendance for the Derby, making the trophy presentation to winning trainer Aidan O’Brien, jockey Ronan Whelan and owners Coolmore.
