Pensioner has Rolex and phone ‘stolen’ while in beer garden

An OAP was left startled after two thieves snatched his Rolex and phone from him whilst he was sitting in a beer garden.

The victim was enjoying a pint at The George pub in Hayes Street, near Bromley, South East London, when a man hopped over the wall and dashed towards him. In footage which has emerged online, two men were filmed as they parked a black Audi on a residential road. In the scenes that followed, they approached the pensioner as they tried to grab his belongings.

The shocking clip captured the moment that the pair had become aggressive in their approach before they fled the scene. CCTV footage recorded the scuffle which happened at around 2.39pm on Tuesday. Locals have since slammed the two men online after the video went viral. Oliver Lewis fumed: “He was sitting outside a pub. Can’t even have a quiet pint now without fear of getting robbed.”

Louise McNeely said: “Oh my God. This is terrifying. Phones are not that expensive either, buy your bloody own one.” Another commented: “Robbing the elderly? That’s bottom tier activities.” Another, called David, added: “In today’s world, it’s sadly not worth wearing any nice jewellery when out and about.”

One person wrote: “Wearing a watch in London is like having a bounty on your head.” Whilst others advised people to wear a “cheap watch” as they branded the two men “utter scum.” Someone else added: “Recognise straight away, The George in Old Hayes. Nice leafy little area usually, just shows no one no where is safe these days.”

Statistics revealed that a staggering 165,933 mobile phone thefts were reported to the Metropolitan Police between January 1, 2019 and December 31 last year. It is believed that London is the worst affected city, with videos emerging online of people being mugged more frequently.
