Hope Lyden, 13, was allegedly attacked by a group of teenagers at a local park in Glasgow who dragged her while unconscious, as Police Scotland charged two girls, aged 12 and 13

A community has raised nearly £3,000 for a schoolgirl who was allegedly beaten unconscious by a gang of teenagers in a local park and dragged through a park.

Hope Lyden was allegedly attacked at the weekend after agreeing to meet a friend at a beauty spot, where she was suddenly set upon by a group of other girls she did not know. The 13-year-old was allegedly smacked across the head from behind and when she hit the ground was unconscious. She was then filmed suffering a number of blows and kicks to her body before her limp body was dragged through a field by her alleged attackers.

Hope was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she was treated for concussion, a suspected broken nose and a burst mouth. In the wake of the atrocity, the local community has so far raised £2,900 for the youngster so she can get herself “something nice”.

The fundraiser reads: “After seeing the post and pics of the wee girl set up, I felt raising a pot of money for her to treat herself to something nice, to show her so many people care, love her [and] are disgusted by what happened to her. This is not ok to happen to anyone, let alone a wee girl trying to enjoy her Easter break.

“So sorry you had to go through this, and I hope this gets you a wee treat. Glasgow and beyond are sending healing hugs and best wishes.”

Hope’s mum, Katrina, told the Record: “It is every mother’s worst nightmare. Hope had never met these girls before and maybe if they had somewhere to go where they were taught the consequences of violence this attack on my daughter might have not happened.

“If we teach kids more positive behaviour and mentor them, then we might be able to prevent teens like Hope, or any other child, from being battered black and blue.

“The amount of support Hope has received from all over the world is astounding. She is currently healing, resting, crying, letting all the emotions out whilst cocooning herself with supportive friends and family. It is reassuring to know there are others out there who do love and support her.”

Local SNP Member of the Scottish Parliament Marie McNair said: “I was horrified to hear of the senseless attack on Hope at the weekend and I wish her all the best in her recovery. I understand the concern Hope’s family and the local community have following this appalling incident.

“I have recently met with the Divisional Commander for Police Scotland Argyll & West Dunbartonshire where I discussed my concerns over rising violence amongst teenagers and I have now written to the police regarding this incident for a further update.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: “Officers were made aware of the assault of a 13-year-old girl which happened around 6pm on Friday, 11 April, 2025, in the Boden Boo area of Erskine. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Two girls, aged 12 and 13, have been charged in connection with the incident and will be reported to the relevant authority.”
