A thrifty woman was shopping when she found the dress worn by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character during the franchise’s first film based off the hit TV series – people cannot believe it

A savvy shopper has shared her delight after a trip to her local Goodwill charity shop meant she was able to get her hands on the iconic wedding dress from Sex and the City.

Fans of the iconic New York-based ’90s series, which lead onto three films, cannot forgot when Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) was getting married to Big (Chris Noth) in the Sex and the City film – and she wore a jaw-dropping Vera Wang gown during a photoshoot with Vogue. The stunning dress, which has a bandeau-style, plain top and a dramatic long, feathery-like skirt was nothing short of breathtaking.

The dress, officially called the Eleanor Bridal Gown, is worth roughly $7,500 (£6,000), according to Nearly Newlywed, which sells the dress used for $3,000 (£2,400).

One thrifter, Ashley Cano, could not believe her eyes when she found a version of the iconic dress in a Goodwill store in Chicago, US, recently. She purchased it for the bargain price of $18.99 [£15.10]. “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this dress,” she wrote on TikTok.

“It’s so big, so heavy,” she added on her page @aileenscloset90. Sex and the City fans rushed to comment on the viral clip.

One other said: “That is my dream dress ever since I saw it in that movie, that is the only one that ever existed people wanted her to mass produce that dress she never did.” One other said: “Oh wow! Girl, that is the thrifting lottery.”

“No way! Girl, you must be living right,” said another. “Omg you hit the jackpot,” added another. “You could sell it for thousands, good for you,” pointed out another.

One bride-to-be said: “Stop I’m getting married in 2026…I want it.” “It’s beautiful,” said another.

One individual pointed out it is not the actual dress from the film. They wrote: “Yes same designer but not the same dress. If you look at the one she’s wearing the dress has a more of fabric/application is clump to look more like flowers on the body of the dress. Still a great buy.”

She added: “I fear I may have bit off more than I can chew. And I have no clue how to best sell it. Any help?” Ashely said she would keep the dress but pointed out that it is way too small for her.

A few days after sharing her find on TikTok, Cano uploaded another video saying that she has received “an insane amount of inquiries” from brides wanting to buy the dress. “I’m working on finding the best way to handle everyone’s inquiries and still have safety around meeting up for try-ons,” she added.
