Sainsbury’s stores will be open on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
So if you’ve run out of booze or need some essentials like milk and bread, you can make a quick dash to your local supermarket branch. Over the festive season, supermarket chains adjust their opening hours. Sainsbury’s remained open over Christmas, only closing on Christmas Day.
Leading up to the New Year celebrations, Sainsbury’s stores will be open as normal. Normally, Sainsbury’s superstores will open between 6am and 7am and close between 10pm and 11pm. Sainsbury’s convenience stores – which are normally located in city centres and suburban estates – are usually open from 6am or 7am to 10pm and 11pm – even on Sundays.
Supermarket stores will open as normal on New Year’s Eve at either 6am or 7am but they will close earlier at between 6pm and 7pm. The smaller Sainsbury’s stores will be opening between 7am and 8am and will be closing at 9pm.
In regards to Sainsbury’s petrol stations, some are open 24 hours, while most pull up their shutters between 5am and 7am and stay open until 10pm or 11pm, and others don’t close until midnight. Others have 24/7 pay at pump facilities. These opening times will remain the same in the lead up to the New Year but on New Year’s Eve, it’s manned stations will be closing at around 7:30pm.
After the New Year celebrations on January 1 2024, most Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open – this is both their superstores and their convenience. Sainsbury’s stores will be open from 8am on New Year’s Day and will close 12 hours later at 8pm. Sainsbury’s local stores will be opening between 8am and 9pm and closing between 8pm and 9pm on New Year’s Day.
Sainsbury’s petrol stations will reopen from 7:30am on New Year’s Day and will be closing at 8:30pm. All stores will return to their normal opening hours from January 2.
