Its stores will open and close under slightly different hours, so it is best to be prepared for those last-minute festive food shops

Sainsbury’s shoppers will want to be aware of its opening times over Christmas and New Year.

Its stores will open and close under slightly different hours, so it is best to be prepared for those last-minute festive food shops. We check several locations today to see when you can expect stores to be open.

You should still double-check your local branch, just in case of any changes. For the larger Sainsbury’s stores we checked, they are scheduled to open from 6am until 7pm on Christmas Eve.

They will then be closed on Christmas Day, before reopening from 9am until 6pm on Boxing Day. Sainsbury’s opening times will then go back to normal from December 27, all the way through until New Year’s Eve when they will open under shorter hours.

For the larger stores we checked today, Sainsbury’s will open from 7am until 7pm on December 31. Then on New Year’s Day, the stores we checked are scheduled to open from 8am until 8pm.

Again, there may be slight changes depending on your location, so be sure to double-check before you head to your nearest store.

For your smaller Sainsbury’s Local stores, the locations we checked online today said that they would be open from 7am until 9pm on Christmas Eve, then they will close on Christmas Day.

Then on Boxing Day, stores will be open under their normal opening times, all the way through until New Year’s Eve when they will welcome shoppers from 7am until 9pm.

Sainsbury’s Local shops are expected to be open on New Year’s Day from 9am until 9pm.

It comes after Sainsbury’s made a major change to its Nectar loyalty scheme this summer. Your Nectar Prices is now available at checkouts nationwide.

Your Nectar Prices are personalised discounts based on your shopping habits and you get up to ten discounts every week.

Previously, shoppers could only access Your Nectar Prices through SmartShop, the Sainsbury’s grocery app, or online. Sainsbury’s claims these offers could save the average shopper £150.

Mark Given, chief marketing, data and sustainability officer at Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re leading the way by making loyalty personal. Shoppers want to feel recognised and rewarded and while Nectar Prices are for everyone, we know our customers love an offer that is made just for them.

“That’s exactly what Your Nectar Prices delivers – it’s about giving customers those extra savings on the products they love and buy most.”
