The King’s traditional message will see tribute paid to Britain’s heroic war veterans as he celebrates Christmas and looks forward to 2026 with a message of hope and unity, says Mirror Royal Editor Russell Myers
The King’s message that hope must rise above all even through the darkest times is a reflection of his life of service.
Throughout the past two years he has trusted the process of his treatment for cancer, remaining positive in the face of adversity. In his expected tribute to our greatest generation of war heroes, who each held onto the hope that they would prevail amid Nazi tyranny, the King seeks to unite us through our common bond.
The Christmas period is typically a time for families and communities to come together, whether through faith or much needed time away from the everyday stresses we all endure.

Charles has long been a convenor of people – whatever their faith or background and had been a unifying force following his health battles. His decision to share his diagnosis and speak so openly about the trials he has suffered as a result has been credited with spreading much needed awareness for the signs and symptoms of cancer.
Many will have joined him in celebrating his recent announcement that the new year will see a reduction in his treatment and a step closer to a possible return to full health.
While some of the King’s family continue to pose their own problems, and his disgraced brother Andrew and estranged son Harry will not join him for Christmas, there is much to be thankful for.
This year has seen the Prince of Wales go further to set out his own vision of what the monarchy will become under his watch, the Princess of Wales announced she had entered remission from cancer and Prince George has been impressed with every public duty successfully navigated. The King will rightly celebrate a happy Christmas and look forward to an even better new year.
