This afternoon Royal Mail put out a new list of postcodes where deliveries of cards and parcels are ‘not guaranteed’
Royal Mail has issued a new update today in light of significant delivery disruptions across the UK. The firm has admitted that illness and other problems have affected delivery offices nationwide.
Today, it revealed a list of 92 postcodes where delivery guarantees cannot be assured. This could potentially mean that vital cards and parcels may not arrive at homes before Christmas.
To handle the Christmas rush, Royal Mail has enlisted roughly 20,000 extra staff to help with mail transport, sorting, and delivery.
Royal Mail stated: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted.”
“The Royal Mail was taken over by new proprietors in 2024, but the purchase came with a pledge to maintain their commitment to delivering first-class mail six days a week. A representative for Royal Mail stated: “We take any reports of delay seriously and will further investigate these concerns.
“We want to reassure customers that the overwhelming majority of mail is being delivered on time – where a route is affected we prioritise any delayed items the following day.”
Royal Mail has announced that it’s putting measures in place to improve the reliability of its services, including hiring more staff and strengthening its delivery offices. The firm is also preparing to introduce changes that will do away with second-class deliveries on Saturdays and shift the service to other weekdays.
The company has been testing this new delivery model and plans to roll it out from early next year.
