Schools have been shut after a burst water main in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, left several homes flooded as pictures online showed the extent of the issue
Several homes have been left under water after a water main burst, which also caused the closure of several schools.
Vehicles parked on a road in the Kirkholt estate, in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, can be seen partially under water as a result of the incident. Engineers are at the scene as some people living nearby were warned they may experience a drop in water pressure.
A spokesman for United Utilities spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: “Engineers are currently at Gerrard Street in Rochdale fixing a burst water pipe. We have sent our water on wheels tankers to the area and brought in water from another part of the network to help keep customers’ taps flowing.
“Some may notice they have low pressure or no water whilst the repairs are being carried out. We’d like to apologise to those customers impacted.”
Three schools have been forced to shut as a result of the burst water main- St Mary’s CE Primary in Balderstone, Holy Family Roman Catholic School and Sandbrook Community Primary School.
Sandbrook Primary said in a post on X: “We have made the decision to close school today due to now having no water.
“Please collect your child as soon as possible from your child’s usual gate. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
