A seven-year-old boy tragically died after being struck by a car on the A38 near Lichfield at around 5am on Saturday, with police now appealing for witnesses to come forward
A seven-year-old boy was tragically killed after being struck by a car at 5am on the A38.
The young boy was hit around 5am, with emergency services rushing to the scene near Lichfield, Staffordshire in a desperate bid to save him. He was declared dead at the scene.
Police are urging anyone who was travelling on the A38 at the time of the accident to come forward.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on the A38 near Lichfield this morning (7 March). We were called to a report of a collision between a car and a child on the A38 at the junction with the A5206 at around 5am.
“Sadly, the child, a boy aged 7, died at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. To help with the investigation, the A38 remains closed in both directions between the A5148 and A5 junctions, although this is expected to be reopened shortly.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators. Some have queried why the child was out on the road at such an early hour – a detail that Staffordshire Police have not yet revealed, reports Birmingham Live.
Lily Violet commented: “RIP little one. Condolences to his family.”
