A customer has praised the company online

Revolut has urged its UK customers to act “immediately”. And one customer has even hailed the “rule” as “excellent”.

Revolut, which has more than 12 million customers in the UK and counting, has warned people to check their app. More specifically, check it during a phone call – and the task could not be easier.

Talking about how you can tell if it’s really Revolut calling, or if it’s a scammer trying to drain your bank account or get personal information, the finance technology company has said there is a “simple rule that’ll keep you one step ahead”.

It explains: “We’ll only ever call you through our secure app, unless we’ve already arranged to do so via phone through our in-app chat. If someone calls you out of the blue – claiming to be from Revolut – and it hasn’t been confirmed or flagged through the app, it’s a scam. No exceptions.”

It adds: “It’s a simple but effective way to protect you from fraud.” If you do find yourself in this position, you should “hang up immediately and report it” via the in-app chat.

Talking about the feature, one of its customers took to X, formerly Twitter, and said: “Excellent design detail by @Revolut.”

Attached with a screenshot of his phone screen, a red banner appears at the top of his phone during a call, which reads: “Revolut is not calling you.”

The customer said: “When you are on a call and open the app, there is a large red banner preventing scam calls.”

Making it “crystal clear” what to expect, the experts have said they will never ask you this during a call. If you get asked this, hang up because it’s a scam.

Listen out for these requests:

  • Send money to a ‘safe account’ or any other account
  • Make a payment for any reason
  • Ignore fraud or payment warnings
  • Share your PIN or personal details

Stressing that they are committed to stopping fraud before it starts so they can protect you and your finances, it urges people to do this to ensure they leave “fraudsters no room to manoeuvre” and in turn, “giving you extra peace of mind”.

Calling it a “major problem”, the experts say that it cost UK residents over £136.2 million in 2023 alone.

Nationwide customers also have a similar feature. The new feature, called Call Checker, allows customers to immediately verify whether their call is genuine through Nationwide’s banking app.

Customers need to open the app, navigate to “More”, then “Call Checker”, and instantly see whether they’re on a call with Nationwide. The screen will display either “You’re on a call with Alex” or “You’re not on a call with us.”
