Retro tech gifts are set to be high on Britons’ wishlists this Christmas.
New sales figures from Currys have shown there is a trend for nostalgia, with Polaroid cameras sales set to soar by 200 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, sales for the classic Nokia 2660 flip phone are up by 50 per cent compared to this time in 2023 as some people look set to ditch smartphones for simpler products.
Other popular vintage items this festive season will include turntables and record players, which are set to see a 25 per cent sales spike year-on-year in the run up to Christmas. Meanwhile digital cameras and “brick” phones also make the noughties-style list compiled by Currys.
Matt Newman, category director at Currys, said: “It’s been brilliant to see all these products making a comeback – we never stopped selling record players, ‘dumb’ phones, digital and polaroid cameras and now is truly their time to shine again. This is a clear sign that we’re all looking to hunker down with nearest and dearest this Christmas, away from the distractions of smart tech.
