Savers Health and Beauty has issued an urgent product recall for three fragrances containing banned chemicals

A range of celebrity fragrances has been hit with an urgent product recall after it emerged they contain substances banned from sale in the UK. This week, Savers Health and Beauty confirmed that three Rihanna perfumes are being pulled from its stores.

The retailer stated it was recalling the ‘Rhianna 15ml’ fragrances – Kiss, Riri, and Rogue – due to certain ingredients being “prohibited” under UK regulations, reports the Express. In its hazard statement, the UK Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards warned: “The products present a serious chemical risk as they contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) and/or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. Both chemicals are prohibited in cosmetic products.

“BMHCA may harm the reproductive system, may harm the health of the unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation. The products do not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 (‘The Cosmetics Regulation’).”

The affected products are detailed below, alongside their specific batch codes:

  • Rihanna Kiss 15ml EDP – 0608940572252
  • Rihanna Riri 15ml EDP – 0608940560389
  • Rihanna Rogue 15ml EDP – 0608940559437

The OPSS emphasised that only items purchased from Savers Health and Beauty stores bearing the listed barcodes are subject to this recall notice. Shoppers are being urged to return any of the above products purchased from Savers to their original store.

A full refund will be issued to all customers.

Savers has encouraged anyone uncertain about whether their item falls under the recall to consult with its in-store staff for assistance and further details.

In a statement on its website, Savers said: “Savers would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
