Argos is offering a discount on the PS5 Pro as part of its New Year sale, but there’s a way to get it even cheaper

Argos is offering gamers some hefty deals on video games, consoles and accessories in its New Year sale. Among the most eye-catching deals is the new PS5 Pro, which stands out with a significant price drop just two months since its release.

The price tag for Sony’s high-powered new console has been slashed from £699.99 down to £659.99, but there’s a way to get it even cheaper with a lesser-known shopping tip. By signing up to TopCashback, new Argos customers can get the PS5 Pro for £628.49 – a saving of more than £70.

Existing Argos customers can still get in on the action, bagging the console for £639.49. The discounts come via a £15 sign-up bonus and a percentage of cashback received within seven working days of purchase.

The PS5 Pro isn’t just another PS5, it boasts enhanced visuals and smoother performance. It also comes bundled with the PlayStation DualSense controller and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom.

Alongside its graphic and performance perks, the PS5 Pro houses a 2TB SSD, doubling the capacity of the original PS5 upon its release. With mammoth titles like Call of Duty gobbling up space, that extra storage is a boon in itself.

But it’s the beefed-up internals that make the PS5 Pro a solid buy, especially for those tired of compromising between luscious graphics and seamless performance, reports the Express. Compared to the original model, the PS5 Pro, boasts a larger GPU, features Advanced Ray-Tracing and utilises AI-driven upscaling.

The GPU can deliver rendering that’s up to 45% faster due to 67% more Compute Units and 28% quicker memory, promising a better balance between visuals and performance. Advanced Ray Tracing will offer ‘more dynamic reflection and refraction of light’, enabling rays to be cast at double and sometimes even triple the speeds of the current PS5.

Additionally, the AI Driven Upscaling is reported to use ‘machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail’. Furthermore, the PS5 Pro Game Boost will enhance older PS4 and PS5 games in both the visual and performance aspects.

The PS5 Pro launched in November and has racked up an impressive 4.7-star rating at Argos after 64 reviews, 60 of which are four or five-star. One pleased buyer said: “Yes they are a lot more expensive than the standard PS5 but the superior graphics and improved performance are worth it. I imagine 2025 will see some games that get the best of the Pro.”

Another said: “Upgrading from the regular PS5 to this model has been a game changer. The difference is undeniable – it’s the best purchase I’ve made.”

However, it’s worth noting the PS5 Pro is a disc-less console, and although external disc drives are available, they can be hard to come by. A less-impressed buyer wrote: “[The PS5 Pro] is fantastic, only issue is trying to find a disc drive for it.”

The official PS5 disc drive costs £99.99 direct from PlayStation, but at time of writing they are out of stock. For those who’d prefer a disc console, the PS5 Slim Disc Edition is also on sale, with Amazon reducing the console to £449.95, down from £474. There’s also the more affordable Digital edition for £369.95, down from £395.
