Coin experts always tell people to check their change as something valuable could be lurking there. Now one TikTok user pinpointed two rare £2 coins worth more than face value

Going through an old collection in your loft can open your eyes to a lot of forgotten goods.

It’s no secret rare coins can be worth more than face value with a 1p valued at £200,000 if you own a specific kind. Often you’ll find the coins which feature an error or have fewer out in circulation tend to be more desirable for collectors.

Now over on TikTok, user @CoinCollectingWizard explained to his 203,000 followers how there’s two £2 coins you must keep an eye on in your change. He shared a recent video, where he said: “Can you see any rare £2 coins with those interesting designs on them?

“You’ll be surprised to know that some are very valuable. Here’s some to look for…” He went on to discuss the 2014 Lord Kitchener £2 coin which was released to mark 100 years since the First World War.

He said: “This coin launched to mark the centenary of the First World War, the error version is missing the words £2 from the heads side. The coin was launched nine years ago to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War.

“It features an image of Lord Kitchener, a prominent British war figure who appeared on government propaganda posters. Only the version with the missing wording is worth £1,000 plus.” Next he spoke about the 2016 Shakespeare – Tragedies coin.

The TikTok user claimed: “The writing on the edge of this coin from 2014 should read ‘what a piece of work is a man’. Tragedies error coins have the wrong inscription for king and country from the 2016 army First World War Centenary £2 coin.

“This normally sells for around £30 plus, a lovely error coin to find.” Even though it’s not worth much, it’s still 15 times more than face value… Every little helps right? Since the video was shared, it garnered nearly 200 likes.

Meanwhile numerous fans rushed to the comments section to tell the poster they own one of the coins. A person wrote: “How cool would it be to come across Kitchener error.” Another added: “Yes I have this.”
