It’s no secret certain pennies are seriously hot topic at the moment with a ‘super rare’ 2p believed to be ‘very valuable’ among collectors. The little gem was posted on TikTok recently by @CoinCollectingWizard who has 202,000 followers.
In case you don’t follow him online, he’s known for sharing rare coins which could be valuable at auctions or among collectors. Now he turned heads after discussing a penny worth an eye-watering £200,000, so do you have it?
Posting in a recent video, he described the UK penny from 1952 which is an “intriguing” proof coin that’s the rarest among the entire series of the copper and bronze pennies.
He added: “The existence of this unique 1952 proof penny was not known publicly until its initial appearance at an auction in 1977, some 45 years after it was struck.
“The British world was astonished to see this coin appear and in proof quality as this was not known to exist. The 1952 proof penny remains an enigma as the only unique proof striking of a pre-decimal penny of the 20th century.”
Discussing the coin further, he noted: “It is perhaps understandable that the George VI 1952 remains a unique piece as the King died very early in 1952, passing away on February 6. A lovely example went up for auction recently and sold for £200,000, so it is 100% a coin to look out for.”
Since the video was shared just recently, it garnered 500 likes and nearly 120 comments. One said: “I have plenty of coins,” while another viewer admitted: “I have 1952.” And a third wrote: “I have a double-headed one.”
