Rachel Booth: Body found in search for missing mother-of-three

The body recovered from a lake in Oakmere has been confirmed as that of missing mum-of-three Rachel Booth, police have announced.

The tragic discovery comes after a days-long search by Cheshire Police, who deployed underwater divers and sniffer dogs in a desperate effort to find the 38-year-old. Rachel was last seen by her family in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Barnton area of Northwich.

Police yesterday confirmed a body had been found in a lake in Oakmere during the search for the mum. Formal identification has since been carried out and police are now supporting her family.

“Rachel’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers from Cheshire Police and they ask for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time,” Cheshire Police said. “We are liaising with the family to see if they wish to issue a tribute and any update will be supplied in due course.”

The search came after Rachel was last seen in the early hours of Saturday morning. A confirmed sighting later placed her around five miles away at 3.50am, at a garage on the A556, where she purchased milk and wine following a 45-minute run. Petrol station worker Issac Carolan, 19, previously told The Sun what the mum had bought that morning.

He said: “I spoke to my colleague who had served her on Saturday morning. She bought milk and wine and jogged from 45 minutes away.” Issac added: “But it didn’t seem weird, she didn’t seem disturbed or flustered.”

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances, and a file is being prepared for the coroner. On Saturday night, police said they were “conducting enquiries in the local village of Oakmere, near Delamere Forest, and the surrounding area.”

Police initially thought she had travelled to Oakmere, Delamere, which is around eight miles away from Barnton.

Rachel has been described as a “lovely” mum from Barnton in Cheshire. Barnton local Raj Kaur told The Sun she is a “a lovely clever lady” and “very active and very nice”. A mum in the area added: “I knew her from the school and she was always pleasant – she has three boys at the school.”

Before the body was discovered, Superintendent Paul Hughes said: “We are currently following a number of inquiries to trace Rachel and we are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare.

“As part of our investigation, our officers and partner agencies, including the Underwater Search Team and Cheshire Search and Rescue, are conducting inquiries in the Oakmere and surrounding areas where it is believed Rachel travelled to, and we would like to thank local businesses for their patience and understanding while these are currently ongoing.

“Investigators are following all lines of inquiry and anyone who has seen Rachel since she was reported missing is asked to contact us.

“The same goes for anyone who has any information on her whereabouts. We would also like to appeal directly to Rachel to get in touch to let us know you are OK.”
