Princess Charlotte, who turns 10 years old today, has an uncanny resemblance to her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in a new picture of the birthday girl shared by her proud parents
It’s a big day for Princess Charlotte, the daughter of Prince William and Princess Kate, who is celebrating her 10th birthday. To mark the milestone, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a sweet picture of the youngster on their social media account – and she bears a striking resemblance to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
In a snap taken by her mother, Kate, Charlotte is beaming in the countryside wearing a camouflaged jacket and she has her hair in a loose ponytail. The picture is captioned: “Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte!”
Princess Charlotte, whose full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, was born at 08.34am at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London on May 2, 2015.
However, there was almost a major incident following the birth when royal aide Jason Knauf confessed he’d lost a slip of paper that contained all the essential details of the baby’s time of birth, weight, and gender.

Luckily, the birthing announcement went down without a hitch, and Charlotte enjoyed the first years of her life at the family’s Anmer Hall home in Norfolk while her dad served as an RAF search and rescue pilot.
Over the years, the young royal has been compared to her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and her great-aunt, Princess Anne.
Royal commentator Phil Dampier told the Daily Express: “She is growing up fast and reminds me of Princess Anne as she’s a strong character and able to tell her brothers what to do.”
Reflecting on her likeness to the late monarch, he added: “Winston Churchill once said of the late Queen Elizabeth when she was a child that he had never seen such maturity in someone so young, and Charlotte seems to have inherited that trait from her great-grandmother, to whom she bears an uncanny resemblance.”
Charlotte has the same face shape and nose as the late Queen, who passed away in September 2022, and similar-looking lips and a wide, beaming smile.
“Charlotte seems to have an inner strength which may one day become invaluable as she is third in line to the throne,” Mr Dampier added. “The world is changing fast, and it may be that Charlotte finds a career outside the Royal Family – but somehow I doubt it.”
The youngster’s special birthday comes following a challenging year for her family. Mr Dampier added: “The whole family is now much happier, of course, as the Princess of Wales is over the worst of her cancer treatment and clearly a lot better. So everyone will be able to relax and enjoy the occasion.”
Charlotte’s 10th birthday does, however, fall on a school day, so she may have to wait until the bell rings to mark the end of the day at Lambrook School, in Berkshire, to celebrate with her loved ones.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty Magazine, said: “For many children it’s a big deal when you reach double digits, and Princess Charlotte is unlikely to be the exception.
“Her birthday falls on a Friday this year, so she’ll be at school and no doubt her friends will want to make a fuss of her. Perhaps there will be a family party at home that evening or on the Saturday of the bank holiday weekend.”
It’s a particularly busy period for the Wales family as Prince Louis turned seven on April 23 and Prince William and Kate marked their wedding anniversary on April 29.
