Princess Charlotte, 10, has a sweet nickname given to her by friends at school, who were inspired by the official titles given to her parents by her grandfather, King Charles

It’s perfectly normal for friends to give each other nicknames — even if one of them is third in line to the throne. And in Princess Charlotte’s case, the nickname isn’t “Princess”.

Prince William and Princess Kate are committed to ensuring that their daughter, Princess Charlotte, now nine years old, has as normal a childhood as possible despite her royal status. At school, she’s officially known as Charlotte Cambridge, but among friends, she goes by a nickname she’s said to love: Lottie Wales.

The name playfully nods to her parents’ titles, granted to them by the King following the Queen’s passing. According to reports, her classmates at Lambrook School aren’t the only ones who use the affectionate moniker.

Meghan Markle’s latest move branded ‘giant f*** you’ by royal insiders

While on a walkabout on a royal visit to Northern Ireland, Instagram influencer Laura-Ann met Kate with her two-year-old son George. During their conversation Kate told George: “Hello, what’s your name? Hi George, what a cool name you’ve got, and you look very smart in your bowtie. It’s very nice to meet you.”

Laura-Ann 30, a part-time estate agent from Belfast, had gone to Windsor Park to meet Kate and Prince William. She documented their meeting on her Instagram page and revealed while talking to her older son, the Duchess said to her: “So then she asked how old Bertie is, and I said he is four and she said, ‘Oh, he’s the same age as Lottie’. She calls her Lottie!”

Charlotte’s parents also refer to her as ‘Mignonette,’ a French term meaning “delicate” or “cute,” as well as ‘Warrior Princess’ due to her “feisty” personality, according to Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent. While on a shopping trip to The Range back in 2018, a fellow shopper told the Daily Mail they overheard Kate telling Charlotte to “get up, poppet”.

The parents also have their secret monikers for their other kids. While at one school – Thomas’s School in Battersea – Prince George was simply called George, just like any other child. But William and Kate apparently abbreviated Prince George to PG and he is then called “Tips”, in a nod to the British family-favourite tea brand. The couple’s youngest, Prince Louis, was once known as Boss Baby by some fans owing to his strong personality.
