Prince William sips cider while playing darts with Hannah Waddingham

Prince William was seen drinking cider and playing a game of darts in a surprisingly relatable new video released at the weekend.

The future king teamed up with actress Hannah Waddingham for a fun clip, shared on social media, with a longer video posted on YouTube. And fans have gone wild for the footage, noting William’s likeness to another prominent royal.

The Instagram video shows Hannah and William at the famed darts venue Alexandra Palace in North London, which played host to the first Earthshot Prize Awards back in 2021.

Ted Lasso star Hannah can be seen confidently throwing darts while watched by William, who encourages her to “Go for the bullseye”.

She then promptly fails to hit the board entirely, promoting the pair to break out into fits of laughter. And royal fans were quick to draw parallels between Prince William and his father, King Charles.

One fan noted on Instagram: “You can hear his father’s voice in the laughter. How sweet!,” while another remarked: “Charles’ laughter right there.” A third added: “Prince William’s laugh is absolutely infectious! Love!” while a fourth said: “Oh that’s a wicked laugh Prince William!”

The fun clip was shared to promote a new documentary focused on the Earthshot Prize, a global competition created by Prince William and The Royal Foundation which seeks innovative solutions to environmental challenges

Hannah is an avid supporter of the initiative and teamed up with the Prince for the programme – titled The Earthshot Report – which premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 15 December.

In the longer YouTube video to promote the documentary, William, 42, and Hannah, 50, discuss the importance of the Earthshot Prize. They were filmed walking up to the bar, ordering two ciders and clinking their glasses before settling at a table to discuss the Earthshot Prize’s goals, origins and its goals for the future. But before the conversation became too formal, Hannah and William decided it was time for a game of darts.

Hannah said, laughing: “I’m feeling equal joy and terror about playing darts with the future King of England.” And William replied: “I think ladies first so I can see what I’m up against.” The actress took her first shot, only for the dart to fly far above the board – with both of them bursting into laughter.

She then took two more shots before it was William’s turn – and he managed three sharp hits. But as they continued the game, the prince and the actress laughed as they both struggled to score high and William joked at some point: “I think we are probably no threat to anybody on this board.”

Prince William set up the Earthshot Prize in 2020 as a way to find new solutions to some of the world’s greatest environmental problems. The five categories are: protect and restore nature; clean our air; revive our oceans; build a waste-free world; and fix our climate.

Each year, the winners in these five categories are presented with a £1 million prize pot to further develop their ideas and bring about lasting change.
