Harry used to be incredibly close to his sister-in-law – but their relationship has soured after he made a number of allegations about members of the royal family
For years, Prince Harry and Kate Middleton were so close they could have been mistaken for siblings. Harry jokingly called his sister-in-law ‘Cath’ and even described her as the sister that he never had.
The duo were frequently pictured giggling and whispering together at public events, and when Prince William and Harry rowed, Kate was known to be the ‘peacemaker’ between them. But all that changed following Harry and Meghan’s decision to make a series of bombshell claims about the royal family. As the distance between William and Harry increased, Harry and Kate’s friendship also crumbled. And according to Endgame author Omid Scobie, there is now “no going back” for Kate and Harry. A source told him: “She was close to Harry, and she will always look back fondly on those moments… and the relationship he had with their children… but to her, there is no way she could ever trust them after all their interviews.”
But it seems that Kate’s health issues may have given the estranged Prince pause for thought. An anonymous source told Closer magazine: “Although a lot has gone on, times like this have reminded them that life is short and family is important. It obviously won’t heal everything overnight but it has made Harry think about things differently.
“The whole thing has brought up a lot of emotions for Harry, who very much still loves his father and sister-in-law – one of those being a slight sense of guilt about what’s happened and how much they’ve all grown apart.” It comes after a friend of William’s confirmed that Harry’s apparent criticism of Kate in his Netflix documentary was the “lowest of the low” for the future king.
Harry and wife Meghan released their six-part docuseries on the streaming platform in December 2022, and dropped a series of bombshells about life in the Firm . Both William and King Charles came under fire in the series, with William accused of “screaming and shouting” and King Charles of ‘lying’ at a high-profile summit.
But according to a book, it wasn’t the criticisms levelled against himself that really left Harry’s older brother William furious, it was those that appeared to take aim at Kate. In one of the earlier episodes, Harry said there is a temptation in the royal family to marry someone who “fits the mould”.
Speaking in the first episode, Harry said: “I think for so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who you perhaps are destined to be with.” And according to the book, Charles III New King. New Court. The Inside Story by Robert Hardman, friends of the Royal Family believed it was clear he was talking about William and Kate. One tells the author in the book: “On top of all the other breaches of trust, here was Harry making a blatant attack on Catherine. For William, this was the lowest of the low.”
